      La comunidad de openSUSE ha empezado a dar forma a su nueva versión Leap 42.3 con esta primera versión Alfa.

       

      Ya está todo preparado para empezar a desarrollar la nueva versión 42.3 de openSUSE Leap. Ya hay disponible una muy primera versión alfa del sistema.

      Ya se han empezado a realizar los primeros test openQA a la que será la nueva versión de openSUSE.

      Los empaquetadores y responsables de paquetes de software ya pueden ir empezando a incluir su software para la nueva versión. Instalando esta nueva versión alfa de openSUSE Leap 42.3 se podrá ir actualizando según vayan apareciendo nuevas versiones mediante el comando: zypper dup.

      Por tanto durante esta fase de desarrollo de openSUSE Leap, se comportará de manera similar a una “rolling release” hasta llegar a la versión final que se publicará a finales del mes de Julio.

      Es importante recalcar que aunque se pueda ir actualizando de esta manera durante el proceso de desarrollo de Leap 42.3, al llegar a la versión final, con la publicación definitiva de openSUSE Leap 42.3 deberías ya actualizar sólo mediante el comando: zypper up.

      Esta versión 42.3 continúa con la línea que empezó en la versión 42 de Leap. Es decir, que se puede considerar una actualización  o “service pack” de la versión 42.2

      Por lo que los desarrolladores quieren una actualización sin sobresaltos, y que todo vaya de manera fluida. Para ello no se apuesta por las versiones más novedosas de cada paquete, sino por aquellas bien probadas y mantenidas, para mantener la estabilidad del sistema.

      Como siempre, cabe también recordar, que estas versiones de desarrollo no son aptas para un uso diario del sistema, por la inestabilidad que puedan producir, además de que no está todo el software disponible. Son idóneas para testear en equipos, pruebas, buscar errores, etc.

      openSUSE Leap 42.3 toma como base SUSE 12.3, y sobre esa base se ofrece todo el software empaquetado por la comunidad. Así sobre una base sólida como es SUSE, se desarrolla una distribución comunitaria.

      Leap es la versión de lanzamientos fijos de openSUSE. Frente a la versión de lanzamientos continuos llamada Tumbleweed. En Leap se busca la estabilidad y el mantenimiento a largo plazo.

      Instalando esta nueva versión como una actualización de “service pack” desde la versión 42.1, pasando por la 42.2, dan un buen soporte a sistemas actualizados y mantenidos.
